𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙄 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙬 𝙐𝙥: 𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙀𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆.

When Courtney Beck was finishing undergrad at the University of Florida, she was lost.

She was an accomplished gymnast and Division 1 Champion.

But she didn’t know how to network.

She didn’t even think she could approach her professors to ask for direction.

That shyness set her back.

And she felt the pressure to figure out what was next.

Sports broadcasting seemed like a dream.

But the competition was fierce.

She had no idea where she really fit in.

Then, she launched a student-run women-in-sport organization.

She brought in graduates and professionals to speak to other students.

And realized:

“I wasn’t the only one feeling lost.

Hearing others’ stories helped me feel less alone.”

It pushed her to keep going.

Even when she didn’t have everything figured out.

Fast forward to today:

• She’s got an MBA and a PhD.

• Is teaching at Florida State University in the Sport Management program.

• And combining all the other things she loves like coaching, speaking and podcasting as founder of Plenty of Positivity, LLC.

She didn’t start out with a 10-year plan.

But she did keep exploring what felt right at each stage of her development.

So what’s her advice for you?

1. Don’t panic if you don’t know exactly what’s next.

The path may change.

But you can still keep learning from it.

2. Network early.

Don’t wait until you’re “ready.”

Take a risk and talk to the people who inspire you.

3. Try new things.

Start that podcast you’ve been thinking about.

Attend that sports management conference that might change your life.

Because you really don’t have to have your life, sport or career all figured out yet.
